Ian McGregor Smith - Performer, Composer and Teacher

Background

Ian has enjoyed a very diverse professional musical career. He has performed as composer, vocalist, instrumentalist, producer, music theatre director, choir director, music instructor, music minister, and high school educator.

He has written, performed and directed numerous compositions. His belief in the power of music to bridge cultural divides has led to travels around the world.

During a visit to Japan he became enthralled with Japanese culture. He decided to compose music for a group of traditional Japanese musicians who were open to new ideas. This group is  called 'Shikandaza" and the result of their collaboration is a new "Japanese Jazz". Their CD's are regularilly being played in different radio markets around the world.

Founder of the iVision Music Group, he regularily participates in live performances, and can be found at the helm of many iVision Music efforts, including Shikandaza, The Spectrum Chorus and Chimoca.

Features

His debut CD, “Freedom”, has seen enthusiastic international airplay and has been praised numerous times for excellent performances in a lush, "Smooth Jazz" style, with Latin and African influences.

He recently produced Crossroads, the second and latest CD of Shikandaza, released in 2009.
